African music lyrics

The Museke project seeks to be the biggest database of African music lyrics and information. It also seeks to encourage discussion and accountability for African music in ways that would benefit society positively. It also involves the use of African languages on the internet to encourage more African language content. This will help us pay attention to the evolution of our culture from an entertainment and literary perspective, while marketing our music, culture in an attractive way.

The project would also allow people who regard Africa as their cultural neighbourhood to get a firm grip on their culture as well as others who will be interested in understanding it. The project combines the best of global technology, the will to market Africa and the love for its ingenious and changing genres of music (culture).

This project started out of the GhanaThink Foundation (GT) by GhanaConscious members as a Tsooboi Project. It's original home was GT's publication wing, AfricaThink and it is being ushered into independency by Homefront. Museke is a direct incorporation of the word 'music' into Akan. Given the word forming rules and structure in Akan, this is how 'music' would be spelt (museke) and pronounced in (musɪkɪ) Akan.

The Museke logo is inspired by the Adinkra symbol, 'Mate masie' and a symbol of a music note. 'Mate masie' means 'what I hear, I keep' and is a symbol of wisdom, knowledge and prudence. In essence, listeners keep what they hear from music and it is up to the musicians to spew wisdom and knowledge in their music and for listeners to be intelligent to pick it up.

This project is brought to you by Ghanathink.org, Museke.com and Suuch Solutions.

You all should be commended for your *excellent* work. This site is amazing. I have spent years searching for some of my favorite Ghanaian songs and was at the point of despair when I stumbled upon your site. Within minutes, I found almost all of the songs I had been searching for. I love your mission statement and the fact that you are so committed to realizing your goal tastefully and positively promoting African music and culture. Africa needs more people like you. I love it! Thank you so much.
