Mzansi : The 1s and 2s
I'm in South Africa and just wanted to give everyone an update on the music scene and what's going on lately...
-Kabelo is proving time and time again that he's ruling the kwaito world with his latest SMASHING album "I am King". Lyrics and video coming soon! I'm also hearing rumours of TKZee in the studio engineering a new comeback album. Should be interesting, what with Kabelo so sick with the rhymes, and Zwai coming back from Opera-mode. I havent seen Tokollo in a while though.
-The House music is (as always) taking parties and events by storm. Lots of nice remixes of old classics which drive everyone crazy (including me). My favorite is "Stuck on You". I can't keep up with which DJ mixed what though but I'll start being more inquisitive :-)
- The anticipated South African Music Awards are coming up this weekend, look out for the list of winners early next week. Although we already know there'll be appearances by Malaika, Nhanhla Nciza (of Mafikizolo- who has been named South Africa's best dressed celebrity!), DJ Sbu, Freshlyground and the who's whos of the SA music industry will be there looking most flyest :)
- I am officially in love with HHP (aka Jabba)'s latest album. It is faya. Lyrics and more info coming.
- The big guns of SA gospel : The Joyous celebration did a concert with Kirk Franklin last year and apparently the dvds etc are on their way to be released soon. Never am I missing that one!!!
- One of my personal heros, Hugh Masekela, has this smashing live album that is so inspiring. He pays tribute to traditional South African music, to the women and men that led South Africa through the apartheid struggle as well as day to day living in the rainbow nation. I want to buy a copy! My fav track is "Thuma Mina" (Send me).
- And in other news : Freedom Day was just celebrated on April 27th. This was the day in 1994 when the first democratic election was held in South Africa. :)
And as the slogan for SABC 1 (my fav TV channel) goes : Mzansi for sho!

Yeah, a South African friend was repping Freedom Day like crazy on April 26/27. Happy belated Freedom Day to all South Africans, you rock!
I am waiting for Kabelo's new album too, bring us the stuff all y'all South Africans. I saw this new video of his, is it on the album?
Congrats to all the SAMA's winners, a blog entry on that is coming soon.
Joyous Celebration and Kirk Franklin, any collaborations in the works? That would be lekker!
