Lord Kenya

Lord Kenya's real name is Abraham Philip Akpor Kenya and during his heyday was dubbed Ghana's rap heavyweight champion. He was called "Babylonian" in his school days because of his insatiable energy which later made high the school's 400m and 110m hurdles champion. Kenya is also not his real name, he has been dubbed so since his secondary school days (Kumasi Anglican and Mpraeso) for his prowess as a long-distance runner. He is also known as rap 'Sakora' where sakora means bald head.

Like many Ghanaian parents, his own were not very happy with his fond liking for performing and entertaining. However, at his father's birthday party, Lord Kenya was able to convince his parents about his chosen profession when he took the microphone and started bursting some rhymes, which kept the audience on their feet all through the night. Subsequently, his father helped him record his first single, Car N'aba, at Kampsite in 1998, later joining Mark Okraku Mantey's Slip Music.

He came into prominence after featuring on the groundbreaking hit by Daasebre Dwamena called Kokooko. He was the first hiplife artiste to dominate the Ghanaian music charts and win Ghana's best song of the year award (2001) for the song Me do.

His initial albums had themes of money, like Sika baa (money girl), Sika card (money or credit card), Yesom sika (we worship money) and Sika mpo nfa ne ho (loosely translated as we don't really need money). He followed these with Aka esi ani and Born again.

Other songs of his include Spedede, Oseikrom Anigyie, Fameko, Car naba, Enyom no, Children of Africa, Asabone, Aka esi ani, Born Again, Chompia, Room 44, Baba, Soldier, etc
