OJ Blaq was born Andy Nii Akrashi in Accra, and is the only child.
He attended Motown (Achimota) prep, junior high and senior high school, through out. He also studied some ICM travel and tourism courses in the UK as well as some Ghana Institute of Journalism courses. He also pursued a travel and tourism diploma certificate at Zane Investments.
He started doing music way back in Motown (Achimota secondary school), rapping and emceeing shows. Way back in Motown, people said he was wilder than OJ Simpson. He was called Notorious OJ, so he changed it to make it OJ. Someone is using OJ in the gospel scene so he changed his to OJ Blaq.
OJ Blaq has featured prominently as MARLON ‘T’ on the hit T.V. series, SUNCITY, which has become a household favourite across Africa, Europe and the U.S.A. He still acts, and has a couple of good movies coming out. He is part of a new TV series coming out whose working title is ‘The Frosters’.
He began his studio career working with Richie of Lynx Entertainment who he knew through his junior in Achimota. He featured on Sidney who is now Barima’s ‘Ma sweety’, then with Fontomfrom and Nkasei (bie pono no).
He is working on his debut studio album, called Galanja – which means ghetto, my abode. It means ghetto in his own 'made up' language. He features Tinny (Otan and Abotere), Quata (Dedeede), Asem (Galanja n Put your hands up), Richie (Come get with me and Put your hands up). Another of his tracks is Target.
He is also doing a project with Okyeame Kwame, – it is an NGO project for the International Labour Organization. They are composing songs for a child labour campaign. They were able to get this contract through the front-liners of a Canadian NGO.
