Phamous People To Direct Chemphe's New Video - Urbanlife singer/songwriter Chemphe is working with multiple award winning Phamous People on the video for his new single 'Why You Dey Treat Am Bad'. The song, an emotional plea against domestic violence, was recorded by David 'Keywa' Kyei at Groove Zone, Tema Community 11 with backing vocals by selected singers drawn from two resident choirs of Action Chapel, Tema Community 9.

GYO (George Gyimah) of Phamous People & Bloo Spidaz had only one word to say after he heard the track: "Deep!" And Chemphe is confident that Phamous People will come up with an equally deep video to reinforce the message in his music.

Phamous People also produced the critically acclaimed video for 'Menka', a collaboration between Chemphe and 2GA so there must be something they are doing that impresses Chemphe. [GhanaMusic.com news]

Chemphe is a breadth of fresh air with his urbanlife sounds, but I wonder if he shouldn't be following the footsteps of 2Face and pushing his English tracks. 'No pampanaa ' and 'Menka' both have great videos and could make some noise. His 'Why you dey treat am bad' single is also in the right direction, addressing domestic violence. His videos are done by none other than 'Phamous People'.

Phamous People have been the major music video makers in the Ghanaian industry over the last few years. Gerald Ogee Gyimah and his crew have been investing in good equipment to deliver quality videos worthy of airplay on stations across the globe. It's unfortunate, our sound engineers have not followed suit and are still bent on getting the most bang for the buck.

Some of Phamous' work includes Obour's Menwu biom video, Kwaadee's Yeeko mmaapE, Buk Bak's Gonja Barracks, Mzbel's 16 years, Obrafour's Ako, Daughters of Glorious Jesus' Ntaban, Nii Okai's Moko be and others. Their videos have great stories and great narrations of the lyrics(Ogee Gyimah writes most of the storylines). The Gonja Barracks video helped me understand the song much more and made me realise some of the lyrics I had missed (which was very welcome due to my bad Ga command). Did the Gonja Barracks movie ever come out?

Talking about movies, it's about time that our musicians partnered with the movie industry counterparts to make better movies. Case in point - Tsotsi. The Tsotsi soundtrack was paramount to the movie's success. I am presonally tired of hearing Celine Dion and R.Kelly songs taking up five minutes at a go in Ghanaian (yes, and Nigerian movies). What happened to the spirit of 'Cantata'? I saw one movie called 'A Touch of Love', which was a joint collaboration between a film house, Hammer's Last 2 and Phamous People. The sound and video quality was excellent, the story was great (at least till the end) and the soundtrack was a welcome departure from the overused English tunes we've been subjected to for years.

We need more collaborations and movies like 'A touch of love'. Hey, Chemphe's single could inspire a movie - with our filmmakers from NAFTI and great movie/video equipment with attention grabbing music, we could see a burgeoning movie industry and even better music videos. Other video productions involving Abraham Ohene Djan and Felix Dakaat are needed on board.
