Lanre Dabiri is known as Eldee da don. He is a rapper and producer, handling Trybe Records. He is also a qualified architect.
Lanre ”Eldee” Dabiri grew up in northern Nigeria where he went to high school in Kaduna. There, he met Adekunle “KB” Bello and Mfon ”Freestyle” and they formed the group Trybesmen.
They released their first single called 'Trybal marks' in July 1999 and then 'Shake bodi' later in September. Their debut album, 'L.A.G style' was a hit and established them as a premier group in Nigeria. They once staged a staggering 78 shows in the space of a year. Their style was a mix of Afro fusion and Hip hop.
Eldee then started an independent label known as Trybe records to create a platform for new talents that would help achieve the goal of letting the world know that Africa deserves a spot on the hip-hop map. The empire signed on musicians like Lequse, Foremen (which consisted of 2shotz and 2ply), Blaise, Del, Sid, Timi, Sasha, and Double O. Sasha aka Yetunde Alabi aka Nigeria's Missy Elliott turned out hits like Emi le gan and Work it and went on to win Kora's Most Promising Artiste Award in 2004.
He left for the USA in 2002, and there have been controversies lately after words with former trybsmen colleagues.
The group broke off but Eldee managed the label with artists like 2shotz riding high. Eldee engineered a collaboration of 'Da trybe' (the group consisting of all the artists on the label) to produce singles called 'Work it' and 'Oya' in 2002. Oya especially was a hit track, which helped solidify Trybe Records as a dominant label in Nigeria. Another compilation album 'The BIG Picture' came out in June 2005.
Even though Eldee has been living in Atlanta, Georgia in the US, he has continued to have a huge presence in Nigeria and abroad. His album, 'Long time Coming' came with singles like 'African Chiquito', 'Champion' and 'I go yarn' which enjoyed excellent airplay in Nigeria.
Eldee is due to release another album, Evolution in 2008.
Some of his songs include African Chiquito, Freestyle can't freestyle, Every day, I'm leaving, etc
