As excitement builds up for the first ever MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMA), the folks at MTVBase Africa are giving fans a chance to be a part of the awards ceremony. MTVBase Africa has created a My Video Award which would be awarded for a viewer created video. Imagine being counted as a MAMA winner just like the likes of D'Banj, Ciara, Jabba T-Pain, and Dama do Bling on 22nd November! Those of you who have been spoofing African songs on Youtube and doing your own dances to these hits, here is your chance to get recognized for it.

FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER YOU CAN WIN AN MTV AWARD BY SUBMITTING YOUR MUSIC VIDEO!

Send in your very own 1-minute music video clip to MTV. The clips can be anything you like as long as they contain music and video, including your interpretation of an original composition, a spoof of your favourite contemporary music video (chosen from a shortlist provided by MTV, funny, deadly serious, outrageous or anything in between – it’s you who decides what you submit, and it’s members of the public who will decide the ultimate winner by voting for their favourite music video clip.

Whether you can rhyme like Missy, rock like Linkin Park or just do your thing, submit your music video and you and your partner could be flown to Abuja, Nigeria to collect your own MAMA award!

The shortlist on the MAMA website for this includes a number of African musicians. Most of them are from South Africa and Nigeria. Hmm, methinks a lot of the nominees for the MAMAs would be from South Africa, Nigeria and the USA. All these countries have some awesome music industries but there are a lot of great music videos and songs from the rest of the African continent as well.
