The 1st Africa Music Awards (AMA) event comes off Saturday 27 December 2008 in London. The AMA aims to expose the incredible richness of African music and culture, showcasing the breath-taking performances from the Continent’s music giants and top musicians. The event is expected to be broadcasted to over 10million viewers worldwide, and 2,500 live audiences consisting of the crème de la crème of society.

The 1st Africa Music Awards (AMA) event is tipped to be the biggest African party, exploding with the exquisite continent’s rich music and culture on Christmas Saturday 27 December 2008 at the stunning 1930’s fashionable venue; TROXY (490 Commercial Road, London E1). Within its niche, the AMA will aim to expose the incredible richness of African music and culture, showcasing the breath-taking performances from the Continent’s music giants and top musicians.

News is filtering in concerning who won what at the MTV Africa Music Awards held in Abuja, Nigeria last night. Winners received 'Golden Microphones', one of which is shown here. D'Banj was the big winner, taking home three awards - artiste of the year, male artiste of the year and the listener's choice award.

ZAIN, MTV BRING A TASTE OF MIAMI TO NIGERIA
Johannesburg/Kinshasa/Lagos/Nairobi/New York, 11 November 2008: US hip hop phenomenon Flo Rida will perform for the first time in Africa at the MTV Africa Music Awards with Zain (MAMA) as MTV salutes the power of US and African hip hop. Joining the whirlwind Miami MC performing at the event will be MAMA award nominees 9ice (Best Hip Hop, Best New Act nominee), Naeto C (Best New Act nominee), Ikechukwu (Best Video nominee) and Jua Cali (Best Male nominee).

Uganda's biggest music awards ceremony, the Pearl of Africa Music Awards (PAM Awards) gala came off during the weekend (Saturday) at the Shimoni grounds in Kampala. The Princess of Tooro, Juliana Kanyomozi was the big winner as she went home with both the Best Female Artiste and the coveted Best Artiste/Musician prizes. Juliana won 3 awards, while newcomers Mozey Radio & Weasel matched her with 3 wins as well, including song of the year for their hit single, Nakudata. Bebe Cool, who is the only Ugandan nominated for an MTV Africa Music Award, also won 3 awards, including that of Best Male Artiste.

An album that was produced as a tribute to Ugandan music great, Philip Lutaaya, won the best album of the year while newcomer Grace Nakimera's Ankufuula video was adjudged the best. Awards were given to musicians who had been the best in Rwanda, Burundi, Kenya and Tanzania as well.

MTV has unveiled the nominees for the Listener’s Choice Award at the MTV Africa Music Awards with Zain (MAMAs). The awards celebrate the tracks and artists who triumphed on the radio airwaves in 2007/8.

We are enjoying this awards season very much. We've gone through Ghana, South Africa, many Nigerian ones, Sierra Leone and we are awaiting the winners in Uganda and Namibia. Arguably the biggest Nigerian musician this year, 9ice, has won his first major international award. He was named the recipient of the award for the Best African Act category at the 13th annual Music Of Black Origin (MOBO) awards, held at Wembley Arena, London, on Wednesday, October 15, 2008. Abolore Adigun Akande emerged victorious with almost half of the votes cast over Asa, P-Square, D'Banj, Jozi, Wahu, HHP (Jabba), Jozi, JuaCali, and Faze.

9ice has had a remarkable year on the back of the ever popular Gongo Aso hit, as well as tracks like Street Credibility featuring Tuface Idibia, Party Rider, Photocopy and Wedding Day. He also got married to Oluwaseun Toni Payne-Akande.
