The Soweto Gospel choir is more than an award winner - video inside
The Soweto Gospel Choir won the best traditional music album at the Grammy's this past weekend. While we are celebrating another feat for African music, we must celebrate the work of the choir.
The choir raises funds around the clock for the charities, Nkosi's Haven and Nkosi's Haven Vugani amounting to over $210 thousand. These charities are mostly involved in aiding AIDS orphans organizations with food, school clothing, electricity and shelter. The charities are named after Nkosi Johnson, who was South Africa's longest surviving child born HIV positive.

The Soweto Gospel choir has also served with Nelson Madiba Mandela’s foundation 46664 fighting the HIV-AIDS menace. They have also performed in support of big concerts like the “Unite For The Stars†celebration which supported the Unite Against Hunger and the Nelson Mandela’s Children’s Fund charities.
Here are a couple of videos showing them performing,

Also had the amazing chance of meeting these guys when they came to my campus last year. They are nothing short of brilliant, the spirit of South Africa shines through them, through their work, through their vibrant performances..to say the very least. I shed a tear or two in alot of the songs they performed. (Swaziland and South African boarding school alumni: u will find plenty remixed songs we used to sing in assembly that will just make u die of nostalgia!). By the way you can find all their music on iTunes, and I believe they are currently on tour around the States.
May I just add that their new album "African Spirit" is phenomenal. Perfect timing for Ghana's 50th this year! Lets keep the African Spirit alive with love, with hope, with smiles, and much more action! :)
Ei, everyone is coming to your campus.
Ladysmith Black mambazo came to my campus and before I could blink, tickets were sold out.
African dream is great song and I feel you on the Ghana@50 and the African spirit.
I am going to look for when they are coming a venue near me, thanx for the info.
