...I'm crazy about it. But why did SA's song of the year have to be a Josh Groban remake? Sbu is lekker and all, but Im sure one of his other original songs could have easily made song of the year. His album was the most played over the entire festive season. We're talking buses, streets, corner stores, supermarkets, clubs, house parties, "braai"s etc. Ei, even my mother's special ringtone for her husband! :-S
Anyway, My song of the year is Dubula! I dont care what SAMA says :-)

Don't know how selection goes but dont think you guys really had time to listen to L'vovo's album, I think it's the bast than Dubula dubula dubula.

Chale's picture

Thanks Sicelo for the heads up. I'll go check his stuff.
I love the Dubula dubula dubula song tho.
And yeah, I am not happy that "Remember when it rained" song won song of the year. Of all the songs coming out of South Africa these days, song of the year was a remake? Hmm, with stuff like Jamali's Maisha, maybe we shdn't be surprised. hehe, just teasing.

S'celo, I love your name. I think you know why :-)
You should hook us up with L'vovo since my sister is taking 29 years to send it to me. But yes, I have heard of how he is shaking up the scene in Kwaitoland. He must be real good, people have been praising his lyrics to no end.
Still neh...Dubula ilekker jo. I love how Kabelo has done consistently well since the time he first went solo from TKZee.
Speaking of which...what happened to Tokollo? I know Loyiso is doing some RnB and some modeling (for very good reason). And I believe Zwai's TV career is still going on. Tokollo o kae?

Congratulations to Simphiwe Dana opn the best female artist ward she really deserves it.Especuially that her Bantu Biko album ies one phenomenal. Her strong lyrics, vocals and jazz instruments really show that she is a queen of jazz. She really shows her talent in track 1 called "Golide".The other one whre she sings with her mother is outstanding! Her mother is got a voice that soundslike when a cat is gracefully kleeching up a wall. She should majke a video of that song it si amzinglyteh best on thealbum,.Oh not forgetting Prokid's mesculine touch to the song.

He really surprised me that he can be in a jazz song and do such an amazing job!!!

Love you
Simphiwe

haha! That's a good one. Yes, apparently Simphiwe Dana is the next big thing! Oh wait, she already is the big thing. I love her too, I think her and the likes of Zamajobe and Judith Sephuma are starting a new generation of South African contemporary Jazz-Rnb (I dont even know what to call it, all I know is it's the rockas)

:-) As for that graceful cat.
lol.

Sbu didnt deserve to win!!!

Chale's picture

mercury, who deserved to win then?

Seems there are a lot of jazz greats coming out of South Africa, heard about Lira the other day.
Got me some listening to do :-)

The self-acclaimed King of Kwaito. (Well, many people agree hehe). His song Sika Lekhekhe was banned from public radio/TV because of its sexual connotations. I wonder why Mzantsi was surprised, after he released songs like "Mnike" (Give it to him), "Do you like my Zombo" (Private Parts) and others.

lol. Sika Lekhekhe literally means "Cut the cake". Interpret as you please.
The dance is still very popular though! It's even grown to "Grate the cake" (so many more people can share it, rather than cutting which limits the pieces)
Ridiculas. But how'z about a little humour jo. SA needs to lighten up.

Hmmm, I agree with the comment that Sbu should not have won, based on a remake. That is shocking and it doesn't say much for us Proudly South Africans.

As for Arthur being King of Kwaito...well...have you guys heard of HHP? Now there is a brother that can getting me onto the dance floor in a split second. I am not a dancer but when that man starts singing..Yho!!!

Have a great 2008 people and keep the music alive. SA is fast becoming a force to be reckoned with.

Much love

Swazibella's picture

I definitely think HHP has taken over, everyone in SA is going crazy, and I do agree that his songs will get you vibing immediately. What is happening to Arthur anyway, he's losing his touch, he used to reign back in the day, but I guess we always have to make way to new talent, and SA is def the place for that!

mgqumeni he wasn't deserve this awards he just got a gift for free or he bribe judges hes not the best maskandi
