The Ghana Music Awards is beginning to rival Miss Ghana as the biggest entertainment show in the country. This year, it is a festival with performances and concerts celebrating Ghanaian Music. The big event is on Saturday where musicians would be honoured for their work over the past year. I will not be able to attend or watch it live on Africast but text messaging shall suffice. Looking at the nominee list, I cannot envisage who would take home the awards but I will go ahead to predict who may and who I think should. Yes, that's why I get to write this entry.
The tricky thing about this award is that it's called the Most popular song of the year. I expect All4real win this (Emmanuella) but Esikyire by Wutah should win it. Wutah has been the biggest thing on the Ghanaian music scene along with Samini. The hiplife song of the year award is a battle between Esikyire and Obrafour's Heavy. I feel Obrafour would win this though and I'll support that.
Samini would and should win artiste of the year, that boy is magnificent in concert. Hiplife artiste of the year is a very strong field but I think Wutah should emerge victorious here. Diana Hammond (Vine Praise) had a great year but I expect Ewura Esi to win the female Vocal Perfomance(Solo/Group) award while Bright (Buk Bak) wins in the male category.
Ofori Amponsah's Changing Face concert may just win him highlife artiste of the year and I expect him to win highlife song of the year as well. Still I love you (Daasebre) and Kwahu Bepo (Naa Agyemang) are strong contenders here. Kwaku Gyasi should easily win gospel artiste and song of the year for Onyame Aseda.
I would be surprised if King Ayisoba does not win discovery of the year. He deserves it.
I like this African pop song category even though some of ths songs nominated in there are out of place. I suppose in the future we may have dancehall, R&B, hip hop song of the year awards too. I expect Tic Tac blaze the trail with Kangaroo.
Akesifour makes an appearance on the list for reggae song and I think they would and should win this one. The collaboration category is probably the most competitive. I would love to see Philippa Baafi and Elder Agyare win this award even though I have a funny feeling C-Zar would win this with Araba Lawson. Maybe Lord Kenya with Born Again?
Keeping my fingers crossed. Who do you think would win the various awards? Here is the nominee list.

We all know what MY hiplife song of the year is...Siesie obaa no!
Then again, Im very biased. Most popular song of the year, I will give a good bet and say Emmanuella. That song drives people mad everywhere I go. Other than those 2, whatever Wutah wins will make my day, as well as my song "African Girl" by Akesifour. African girl you look so.....byutifulllll!
Hmmm, Ghana needs some more Female highlife/hiplife vocalists. Also, African music stores need to start selling more African music (music from other African countries)...so tired of LL Cool J and Kanye West in my face everytime I enter a music store at home to look for 2face, Nameless, etc (which, they never have).
Hmm, I didn't think Siesie obaa no would have a chance at the award. It's been much more popular this year than in 2006. I thought Emmanuella would win, but it's not surprising King Ayisoba won though. The song was not played at a lot of parties/events, but it was very popular.
I am disappointed Wutah didn't win anything, but then again, they had been nominated on the back of a single on a compilation album - Esikyire. I can't wait for their next album. :-)
Akesifour was unlucky too.
Talking about female vocalists, they are a few emerging. Prominent among them are Becca, Irene & Jane, and Paulette. They've all been discovered through various pop contests, other major female stars are taking the gospel route which is even more lucrative.
We should have Becca and co on Museke in the near future. :-)
You forgot Nana fremah and Ewuresi, they are great too
did you see Irene and Jane (Stars of the Future) their new video? The video and dancing is great, really cool
lyrics for this song should be up soon as well as audio
Irene Logan and Jane Awindor came 1st and 2nd in the inaugural Stars of the Future contest. Their first single, Heated up, features Neez Buck (Nana Kwabena) off the album called Unveiled.
Video was directed by Abraham Ohene-Djan (Ohene media)
Here's the video
