When it comes to dancehall kings in Africa, Redsan is one who stands arms akimbo with any other. Mohammed Swabri has been taking the East African music scene by storm and with the launch of his most recent album, the Pioneer, he is bound to be on the lips of many music lovers all around the globe.
Take for instance, his new video, Touch, which is prominent on MTV Base and has all the makings of an international hit. You could easily be fooled into thinking the video and song is straight from the Carribean, it's by an African and was shot in France. Who would have thought?

All the songs on the Pioneer are supposedly in English because Redsan is targetting the international audience. He has been on tour around the world promoting it and gaining many fans across the US and Europe. The video, shot in France and featuring mostly French girls, was finished in Miami, courtesy the Monalisa label. Monalisa recorded and produced the Pioneer album.
I think this video is excellent and hope vehicles like Myspace, Youtube and MTV Base Africa ride it into international recognition. When I was shown the video recently, I was pleasantly surprised.
The beat, the visuals, the lyrics - "Boy, the feeling that you give me brings me joy", this one is for the clubs.

"Good videos do not necessarily have to be high cost productions. You can invest heavily in a video and still produce a flop such as (the Hollywood movie) Water World*, which featured some of the biggest actors in the world.
"There is a lot involved in making good videos, from having a good script, good designers, good photography directors and so on. But very few artistes in Kenya want to adhere to the professional regulations.
"They break all the rules of video production, yet they want to hit the international market. It’s like running gutter publications and trying to go international with it. It doesn’t work."
