Emmanuel Okose, the artist formally known as Soul E
Hey guys!
The gist in town is that Emmanuel Okose (Formally Soul E) failed to honor his contract with his record label and is parading himself as an artist without a label.
Word is that his record label with which he has a valid contract; Colossal Entertainment, has a court order from the Federal High Court Lagos stopping Emmanuel Okose from using the name Soul E , parading himself as Soul E or releaseing any music in that name!
Aparently he is in South Africa to undertake some musical works and his label has vowed to sue anybody or company that does any deal with him.
they are waiting to get info on his activities and will be sueing any company working with him.
They are also sueing him for defamation for all the things he has said about the company in various newspaper interviews.
Bad luck for the dude!

Oh, that's bad news. I wish him luck finding a record label so that he can make some more good music.
Here's his debut hit video, Soul E Baba dey here which won him a lot of awards apparently.
Another video, Overcomer
He shall overcome this small problem :-)
He's also featured on one my favorite songs, Ebe like say by 2Face Idibia.
Chale,
i am into music entertainment too and artists from Ghana and Nigeria treat recording contracts like toilet paper! You just cant decide not to honor a contract because of flimsy excuses!
Ive been following this Soul E story with his record label.
after a record label has spent money and time making you famous you cook up some reason for disagreement and then go off to make money for yourself! Thats not right.Who do you think paid for those videos you pasted on this site? Soul E? Hell no! So the guys who did should sit on their arses while he goes around feeling like the star of the century?
we love artists and we love music but justice and fairness is also important. Its only fairness and sanctity of contracts that can build the music industry in west africa.
Soul e as far as i am concerned is a talented crook. Within 6 months he became a star internationally and then he decided to find reasons to quarrel with his label? Who is fooling who? Why didnt he think they were bad for him when he had nothing and nobody knew him?
Listen, as we feel sorry for the artists, but who feels sorry for the record label? Have you spent 100KUS$ on a project and you get nothing out of it? Ive been there and i know how it feels. Its people like Soul E that makes record labels treat artists badly, its people like him that make record labels think all artist are ungratful hustlers.
Tell the guy to go and continue making good music BUT with his record label.
Soul E be honest to yourself and earn my respect
Soul E Baba (more like Ali Baba without his 40 thieves!)
Peace!
Its really very sad reading issues like this.We in the UK are doing our best to get international labels interested in investing in African music and a situation like this is quite discouraging.Which international label will want to invest in Nigeria when already we have a reputation for not keeping to our word, then something like this soul e situation happens?his label should do everything within there legal rights to teach him a lesson. We have to stop this dishonesty in Nigeria. The boy must be quite silly indeed.I also heard he's a gigolo and married a woman old enough to be his mother??all i can say is hail naija!!

Anonymous, can you tell us a little about your record label?
Thank you for enlightening us on the situation from the record label's point of view. These quarrels with record labels are rife and there are always many misunderstandings, especially when it comes to sharing profits, etc. Maybe Soul E felt ripped off or got a little greedy and decided that he could run things on his own. As he's finding out, it's tough to be with a great record label, which is very true, there are many good African musicians out there who are hanging with the 'wrong' distributors/record labels which are not enabling them to compete and succeed like they should.
Still haven't heard about much of what Soul E did wrong, anyone care to share?
As for the gigolo story, people hear many things :-)
