    Julius Amua-Sekyi

One of Ghana's foremost reggae musicians, Shasha Marley was born Julius Amua-Sekyi. He grew up listening to reggae greats and composing music. He was part of Matthew Chapter 5 (high school band) in St. John's High School, Sekondi, Ghana. After high school, he started singing in nightclubs. His father was once a Director of Education in the Western Region of Ghana and he was in a family of lawyers.

Shasha Marley has been described as a 'Monk on the loose', due to his routine stage presence wearing a hood over a matching cassock and a sash. He wears this outfit due to his reverence for friars. He finds the life of Saint Francis of Assisi very interesting. Although the Saint was very wealthy, he left the comfort of his home to live with the poor and the needy in the slum, to fight for the cause of the poor. His inspirations include Bob Marley, Winston Rodney (Burning Spear), Steel Pulse, Jimmy Cliff, Nelson Mandela among many others.

His debut album was called Tell Freedom. He was the major artiste behind a musical campaign, 'Stop Aids, Love Life' against HIV-AIDS in Ghana organized by Johns Hopkins University's CCU and the Ghana AIDS Commission. He was also involved in the recording of 'Save a million lives' together with Isaac Hayes which was written by Princess Asie Ocansey of NACOTEC. He also featured on 'Say no to drugs' with Bob Carlos. He composed 'Say yes for Children' in aid of the efforts of UNICEF.

He was also invited by the Libyan leader, Muammar al- Gadhafi to perform to all African Presidents during the last Organization of African Unity (OAU) summit, held in Tripoli in the year 2001.

His second album, Lost and Found had an appropriate title. He disappeared from the Ghana music scene for a long while and tracks like Maata Family have projected back into the spotlight as one of Ghana's best musicians.

Some of his songs include Seek ye good and not evil, Shame politicians, Boom boom waa waa, Twin city mafia, Eagerness, So Nyame mu, Evil spirit walk away, Lost and found, I am not ashamed of the gospel, Queen of queens, Promised Land (A state of mind) etc.
