Adesola Adesimbo Idowu is popularly known as Weird MC the Rappatainer. She is a hip-hop emcee from Nigeria. She hails from Ogun State but was born in the UK. She took up the name Weird MC after a group she was part of, the Weirdos, split. She was inspired by the music of people like Brenda Fassie, Lagbaja, Outkast, Queen Latifah, MC Lyte, Janet Jackson, Fela Kuti, Jimi Hendrix, Lauryn Hill, Lenny Kravitz, etc. She listens to a lot of Afrobeat, neo soul hip-hop, alternative vibes, jazz, and classical music. She considers her music a fusion of Afrobeat meeting hip-hop.
She had been accepted to study law at Ogun State University but dropped out to pursue music. Her debut album, 'Simply weird', is rumoured to be the very first rap album out of Nigeria. It was released in 1997 but it did not do too well even though she was recognised at the AMEN awards ceremony. It had the video-single, Allen Avenue. Her next album After Da Storm came at a time hip-hop had taken off in Nigeria (2006) and was a massive success. The track Ijoya is a departure as such it’s just a coming of age of her sound.
One of her projects is a music academy in Ogun state. She has her own label called 0907 Entertainment.
Some of her songs include Da way we blo', Ijoya, African woman, Riranwo (See sumtin), What u waiting for, Palava, etc
