Chorus
There is fire on the mountain
And nobody seems to be on the run
Oh there is fire on the mountain top and nobody is running

I wake up in the morning
Tell you what I see on my TV screen
I see the blood of an innocent child and everybody's watching
Now am looking out my window
And what do I see
I see an army of a soldier man matching across the street

Hey Mr soldier man
Tomorrow is the day you go to war
But you are fighting for another man's cause
And you don't even know him

What did he say to make you so blind?
To you conscience and reason
Could it be love for your country?
Or for the gun you use in killing

Repeat Chorus

He Mr Lover man
Can I get a chance to talk to you?
Cause you are fooling with a dead man's corpse
And you don't know what you do

So you say you have a lover
And you love her like no other
So you buy her a diamond
That someone has died on
Don't you think there something wrong with this

Tell me who's responsible for what we teach our children
Is it the internet?
Or the stars on television
Why o why o

So little Lucy turns sixteen
And like the movie she's been seeing
She has a lover in her daddy
She can't tell nobody till she makes the evening news

One day the river will over flow
And there'll be nowhere for us to go
And we will run, run
Wishing we had put out the fire

In spite of a few unsavoury reviews by some international critics who do not understand the colour of her music, Nigerian-born soul kid Asa is not stopping in her quest to conquer the world. The 25 year-old musician, born Bukola Elemide is building an amazing followership across the world, finding her way to mainstream music caucuses, and moving impressive untis of her debut solo album.

And, as if to add icing on the cake, sources told Glitz beat last week that urbane music channel MTV. Although no official pronouncements have been made, a report on her official Myspace indicates she has been ‘approached by MTV to be ambassador for africa’. And a report on bbc.co.uk reads in part ‘… she is currently being approached by MTV to take up the role of ambassador for Africa…’ Meanwhile, Asa’s eponymous album was released in the UK on February 18.

Judging from the performance schedule on her official myspace page, the rapidly-rising singer is not expected back home until later in May. The singer has a long string of performances across Europe, but will take a three-week break on May 25th, after performning at the Africa International Festival in Frankfurt.

Did anyone else ever sing a song in their childhood "there is faya on the mountain, run run run!" :-)

I absolutely love this song. I cant figure out if its Afro-reggae-jazz-beat. All i say is it's the rockas and it's fast becoming the most played-on-repeat for me hehehe.

It's definitely on Asa.

I think Asa's songs are incredible gifts from God. She's the best thing that's happened to Nigeria's and Africa's music in 2008.

There's a lot of hype about "Fire on the Mountain". How about "360 Degrees", "Bibanke", "Iba" and the rest. I think music has birthed another music-genius.

Asa, just stay humble and humane. Music it is. It's in your being. And it's taking you beyond the skies.

Thank you for delighting us with such a rare kind of music that's simply ecstatic!

I agree with you Yemi, Asa is definitely the brightest (new) musician from Africa in awhile. I hope she goes on to win some international awards these year, maybe in the Kora's, MTV awards, etc.
