    Lira Molapo

Lira was born Lira Molapo in the East Rand eDaveyton (Ekurhuleni). Her music is a sweet mix of Afro-Jazz, RnB, soul among others.

After winning a competitions for young singers and songwriters, Lira started performing live at the age of 16, singing both cover versions and self-penned songs. In 2000 she was discovered by musician and producer Arthur Mafokate, who had her sign with his own record label, 999 Music. She wrote all the songs on her album that was called All My Love (2003) and released in May 2003.

She left 999 Music and teamed up with keyboardist Victor Mngomezulu, bassist Tshepo Sekele, and producer Robin Kohl. In 2006, her second album, Feel Good, was released and was a bigger success. She received five nominations at the South African Grammy Awards (Best New Artist, Best Female Artist, Best R&B Album, Best Single, and Best Video). “Feel Good”, was hailed as a great Afro-jazz album. It had hits like Feel good and Ixesha. 'Feel good' was twice number 1 on Metro FM's charts on the National Top 20.

Her third album, Soul In Mind, is due out in 2008.

Some of the songs include Change the world, All My Luv, Wa Mpahela, Ngiyabonga, Feel it in me, Ngiyazifela, Dance of life, Twisted, Crush, Yeah yeah yeah and Dumisa.

What else do you do besides sing
I'm a full time musician, I'm fortunate in that my career is quite busy. We pretty much operate like an entertainment solution firm and my office is in Randburg. I do community work a few times a month but mostly my days are filled with meetings, shoots, performances and interviews

Are you Xhosa?
No I'm Southern Sotho.

Are you from Soweto?
I was born in Wattville and grew up in Daveyton, Ekurhuleni

So what is it like to be famous?
Relatively normal except for the fact that you're easily recognized by loads more people!

So what are you up to?
Never know with this one. it's usually WORK!

Are you single
Unmarried but unavailable.

Do you have children?
No kids.

When is the next album coming out?
Target release was in September but due to the number of female acts coming out in the same month from my record label, I have pushed mine back to November.

How can i get you to sign my CD?
We usually have stock at all our shows, otherwise Reliable Music is the very RELIABLE, Musica and Kalahari.net if you're anywhere else in the world... cant sign it though:-(

When is your next performance??
All my upcoming performances are posted here on the news feed and will be emailed to every member of this group.
