    Tumi Molekane

Tumi Molekane is the lead artiste in Tumi and the Volume, a South African group. He was born in 1981 in Tanzania. He is a poet, musician and an emcee. He lived in Tanzania with his parents until 1992 when he arrived in Soweto.

The Volume is mostly made up of the musical component of Mozambiquan band 340ml. The Volume comprises musicians David Bergman (bass), Tiago Paulo (guitar), and Paulo Chibanga (drums) – performing alongside emcee Tumi Molekane. Their music takes on various styles - hip hop, Afro-jazz, rock and dub.

His poetry projects include The Tao of Tumi, which was completed in 2001. In 2006, he was published in the American literary journal, Subterranean Quarterly. He has also compiled a collection of poems entitled The Black Inside Out.

In 2005, he recorded the song 'Trade Winds' with Cincinnati-based rapper Main Flow. 2006 saw the release of his debut album Music from my Good Eye, through his own label, Motif Records.

Tumi was the feature of Yfm’s acclaimed pilot ad campaign, performing controversial poetry for the ads.
