Viviane Chichid was born in one of the coastal cities near the Atlantic Ocean. She's often referred to as the Queen of Mbalax. Mbalax is a Senegalese music genre. She is well known for her blends of Mbalax, R&B, pop and hip hop.
She is a Kora nominated artiste who has toured worldwide.
She got her big break in 1993 when she joined Youssou Ndour's band, Super Etoile, She featured on many Youssou hits; Seven Seconds, Wommat, etc. She featured on many of Youssou's tracks in the 1994 CD The Guide (Wommat) and the 2002 CD Nothing's in Vain. She is the former sister-in-law of Youssou Ndour when she was married to his brother, Boubacar. For a long time, music fans knew her as Viviane Ndour.
In 1997, she went solo and enjoyed a successful career. She released her first album in 1999 and eventually got her own band called Jolof band in 2001.
Some of her songs include Obibolo, Sama Nene (My Honey), Entre Nous (Between Us), Goor fit, What-a-what - Cherri boy, Bamba ji, Kagn laalay jiss, Shama Plus, Am fit, Yaay Bagn, Taximan, Stress, etc
