Rocky Giant's real name is Fred Giriya
He comes from West Nile, but was born in Central Buganda. He speaks more Luganda than his mother tongue just because I grew up in Buganda. He lost both parents when he was six.
He ended up in Kampala in 1992 and with the help of a friend he got the chance to go to school being sponsored by Kampala Diocese.
In 1993 while in primary three was he joined the music scene by being with the church choir. He also learnt to play many local instruments and became entertainment prefect.
He followed up on his Rafiki release with 'Gwa baras' which is precise fusion of Contemporary Ugandan ragga and Hip-hop music. This is a phenomenon that has helped to establish him as one of the top upcoming artistes. His previous release 'Rafiki' is already very popular in the UK. Most people that have listened to his work say he may just be Uganda's future star.
Rocky Giant is following in the footsteps of Bataka Underground and Sylvester & Abrams with his neat and precise Luganda rap delivery. He goes and extra step and spits his bars in Swahili on Ugandan dancehall beats as well.
