Brenda Nokuzola Fassie is a musican from South Africa dubbed the Madonna of the Townships. She was known as the wild child of South African pop and Mabrrr by her fans. She is one of the best known musicians in Africa.

In 2001, TIME Magazine did a feature on her crowning her the "Madonna of the Townships". She released 24 albums. Her debut Weekend Special became a hit on the British Charts and Billboard.

Black President was released at a time when the person it paid tribute to, Nelson Mandela, was being released from prison. 'I Am A Good Black Woman' was banned but it became an anthem, a song most activists and their families related to. Vulundlela was also used in the African National Congress' election campaign in 1999. She also had a tribute to her mother Sarah, fondly known as Mamokoena.
