Joshua Alphonso Tetteh Cheataa-Laryea is a gospel musician from Ghana. He hails from Gbese, a suburb in Accra and grew up there.
Josh Laryea was born into a family of Christians, where his father led praise and worship at church for several years. He grew up singing, mostly leading cheer clubs or Jama groups in his days at Accra Academy and Apam Secondary school. After he became a born-again Christian, he started using his talents to praise God through gospel music.
He released his debut album, 'His Resurrection power' in 1992 and followed it with 'Praise Power' two years later. His next album 'Yetiatia wo so' (We step over you) came out in 1997. 'Halleluyah Africa' was released in 2002 which had some songs in French, Yoruba and Igbo. His Ngboo album came out in 2004 and the title track was adapted by Accra Hearts of Oak (Ghanaian football/soccer team) as a motivational song. Ngboo in Ghana means I will not die. His album Overcomer, released in 2005, was also a great success. He released Ajoomi (which means I am blessed in Ga) in 2006.
He has also formed Josh Laryea Music Consult whose aims are to evangelise through music, bring direction and vision to the gospel music industry in Ghana and to raise the standard of true worship in the local churches and beyond.
He studied at the Central University College and did his thesis in the Master of Philosophy in Religious Studies program. He is also a Pastor of the International Central Gospel Church (I.C.G.C Christ Temple Assembly). Josh Laryea was the Assistant Chaplain of the Central University College from 2000-2006 where he also lectured Christian Perspective on Management in the School of Business Management and Administration. Presently he is the Faculty Officer of the School of Theology and Missions at the Central University College.
Some of his songs include Medo wo, Overcomer, Ajoomi, etc
