New York rapper Loon (Chauncey Hawkins) shot one of the singles for his latest album, 'Distracted' in Tanzania.
He decided to shoot the video there because he wanted to go back to this African roots and Tanzania had many features that attracted him, like Mount Kilimajaro, the island of Zanzibar, etc. I guess Loon hadn't heard about Bongo flava before he went to East Africa but now he does. He did record a song with Bongo artistes Ibra and D-Gritty and seemed to like Bongo flava music.
The 'Distracted' video features Miss Tanzania 2005, Nancy Sumari as the lead act and shows a lot of Tanzania's landscapes. Noorah, Ray C and Juma Nature also make appreances. The video could be a good tourism tool. I feel the video looks very much like a lot of African videos out there, I don't think it is much better video than some of what has been coming out of Tanzania. Granted, the picture quality is great and makes good use of TZ's environment.

There were some rumours about Loon being arrested in Africa. His crime? Allegedly punching a man on the set of a video he was shooting. There was a misunderstanding concerning the man securing permits for the shoot. Rumour also has it that Nancy Sumari had not been paid.
This story reminded me of another rumour which was associated with Jay-Z's trip to South Africa where a video was circulated showing him assaulting a lady. I personally think mountains are being made out of molehills and people just want to generate some publicity for financial gain. I think various musicians who have gone to Africa to perform have conducted themselves well.
