Africa through the eyes of choral music

How do we as africans regard choral music?
Personally, i believe that choral music can be a way to keep african culture alive. apart from beating drums and dancing to it's sound, we can keep the oral stories told by our ancestors alive through choral music. There is nothing like listening to beautifull voices carrying a message. And in this case carrying the African story!!!!

Chorus
However hard I fall I get right up and that’s what keeps me happy,
Persevere and keep it strong no matter what the world throws at me.
However hard I fall I get right up and that’s what keeps me happy,
Persevere and keep it strong no matter what the world throws at me.

Verse 1
I wake up in the warmest beaches – sunrise and gentle breezes,
Birds sing good morning break the night time to peaces,
No boots or sneakers I walk bear foot and my feet just,
Dip into the sand – contemplating on my plans,
And the power in my hands as an African,

Kotazo dance craze from DR Congo

From guest blogger - Dominique

The Kotazo craze is sweeping the Democratic Republic of Congo. It's mixed with coupe decale (from Ivory Coast) but people from Kinshasa have created their own dance. It's kind of a reaction against coupe decale and traditional congolese dances described as too "quiet". So like in Coupe decale, people get crazy dancing on kotazo, mixing some capoeira dances, simulating fights. It's simple, you do what you can do ;) It's more aggressive than other Congolese dances.

African musicians and style of dressing - Mzbel

So Mzbel has apparently had enough criticism concerning her style of dressing on stage and music videos, etc so she has decided to change from the Western style to the 'African' way of dressing - stop wearing bikinis, etc.

She has decided to choose the 'dipo' style because her mother is a Krobo (this will probably be more for performances). Do a Google image search for 'dipo krobo' and see what Mzbel is talking about.
Well, maybe she is kidding, maybe she is not.

SoulfegeAFRO-DIASPORIC GROOVALICIOUS FUNKADOCIOUSNESS!!!
WE'RE BAAAACK!!

Wzup FAM! It's been awhile but we're back and in full effect! The summer has been a productive one - full of hot recording, new connexions, some backstage wheelin' n' dealin', and a few special surprises coming up in the next few weeks. In short, we cannot wait to unveil all the fiyah' fo' ya!

The first project we are launching this fall is the Take Back the Mic(TBTM) tour. In typical Soulfège style, we are using our music as a means to empower youth across the country, challenging a generation to "take back the mic" and speak for itself. Visit http://takebackthemic.com to learn more about the project and become a member of the TBTM movement.

Kizomba fever!

Since the Angolans have been dominating the MTVBase Africa charts lately, it's about time we talked more about Angolan music, especially Kizomba.
The music can be likened to zouk or rhythm and blues.

Kizomba is a music genre performed in all Lusophone African countries as well as Portugal. The Sãotomean kizomba is very similar to the Angolan, Juka is the most notable among the Sãotomeans, but it is also one of the most notable performers in the genre. The Cape verdean version of kizomba is called pasada, kola-zouk, zouk-love or cabo-love and also uses Creole instead of Portuguese.

See more info at Kizomba on Wikipedia.
