omega bugembe okello jazz gospel african music uganda Museke: Can you tell us about your background and family?
Omega: I was born and bred in Uganda.

Museke: How did you get into music and what was your first break?
Omega: I started singing from home, church was the major influence and I was shaped by Sunday school. Truth of why I sing is because my mother attended an event and saw a gentleman with his kids singing and she was so touched so she wished her children would sing too. My brother and I sing. I sang in the African children’s choir.

NO ACCREDITATION NO ENTRY!!!

The family and funeral committee chaired by Harry Laud adhered to this rule as if it was Kwame's last wish or maybe he wrote it in his will that when he dies his family should give accreditation to people who would attend his funeral. For the first time in the history of showbiz in this country for a star like Kwame Owusu-Ansah to die for a so called accreditation and the right for this and the right for that to become a major issue for his final journey to the known. The death of Kwame Owusu-Ansah has brought a lot of issues from the media, from fellow actors, some family members and funeral organizing committee.

Anti-xenophobia song: Not in our lifetime (South Africa)

Bua News reports that local musicians have united to record a special song which will bring South Africans together to help sooth the pain and suffering which has been caused by the brutal attacks on foreign nationals in the country. The song, Not in My Lifetime, will be released in coming weeks.

The message behind the song is that our time should not go down in history as another era of tragedy. It urges the youth to take a stand and ensure that the legacy they leave will be a proud, unified one.

"Musicians have the power to touch lives and change attitudes. Their music transcends borders and unites desperate people," says Siyabonga Metana, campaign coordinator. He said the ability of music to educate, inform and raise awareness was important.

Several artists and musicians from a broad spectrum of society recorded the song at Jazzworx Studio on Sunday. The artists included DJ Sbu Leope, HHP, Simphiwe Dana, Shugasmakx and Relo (from Skwatta Kamp), KB, Nthabi, Tuks, MXO, Teargas, Andile Carelse, Lungelo, Pro Kid, Tebza Kwela, Tumi and DJ Cleo.

The business aspect of the music business

What is called the music business today is not the business of producing music. At some point it became the business of selling CDs in plastic cases, and that business will soon be over. But that's not bad news for music, and it's certainly not bad news for musicians. Indeed, with all the ways to reach an audience, there have never been more opportunities for artists.

What is music?
First, a definition of terms. What is it we're talking about here? What exactly is being bought and sold? In the past, music was something you heard and experienced, Nana Kwame Ampadu, Teacher and his band etc it was as much a social event as a purely musical one. Before recording technology existed, you could not separate music from its social context because what ever these legends talk about in their music those days reflects the realities of the society then. Music was an experience, intimately married to your life. You could pay to hear music, do we still do that? Or we listen for free.
