Voices of the Future : African Children's Choir

African children's choir
They may go unnoticed as we jam to kwaito, soukouss, highlife and bongo flava, but the African Children's Choir is a strong presence whose mission we all need to be in support of. Made up of the most precious of faces and the most delicate of voices, the choir comprises of young African children aged between 7 and 11. Many of them have lost a parent or two to famine and disease, some are HIV positive orphans. They speak different languages and are from various countries around the continent, but they have united in one voice to represent and raise awareness to the issues concerning AIDS orphans from all over Africa. They were recently featured in the "Blood Diamond" movie's soundtrack. They have shared stages with personalities such as Miriam Makeba, Thandiswa Mazwai, Josh Groban, Wyclef Jean, Michael W. Smith to name a few, and have been successful in raising significant funds towards supporting and educating their brothers and sisters throughout the continent.

Verse 1
The years are going by
And the days are few
He is patient still
He is waiting to receive all to Him
He said, Who will I send
Who will go unto My people
Are you willing to go to the end
To heed to His call

Chant
Ameo kata miva na mia woe
Do sogbo sogbo loo

Chorus
Open your eyes and look
Souls are perishing
The season is now (now)
The harvest is ripe (ripe)
But the labourers are few
It's time for you and I
To take our place in the field of souls
He has promised us
He'll be with us
To the end

Verse 1 2x
The lamb of God who died and rose again and lives forever
He conquered death and paved the way for you and me to get there
But I turned my back on Him and walked the way that leads to danger
As He called to me to lead me home to heaven

Verse 2
Amazing love
How can it be
All the way from heav'n You came
On a tree You died in shame
Just to save a lost and wretched soul like me

Chorus
I'm the reason He came
And He gave His life for me
I'm the reason He came
To take the pain and shame away
I'm the reason He came

Verse 1
Sometimes alone in the evening
I look outside my window
Shadows in the night
I hear the sound of distant crying
The darkness multiplying
The weary hearts denied
All I feel is my heart beat
Beating like a drum
Beating with confusion
All I hear are the voices
Telling me to go
But I can never run

Chorus
'Cos in my African Dream
There's a new tomorrow
My African dream
Is a dream that we can follow

Verse 2
Now when the night begins to fall
I listen for your call
I listen for your heartbeat
Alone, my drea

Reinventing Society Through Gospel Music and Musicians

Nigeria: Reinventing Society Through Gospel Music
- Music has great and many kinds of influence over people. It is water or acid for the soul, depending on what is produced. It is an extremely versatile means of communication. It is capable of exploiting all the acoustic features that are used in verbal communication. Moreover, it does so in an explicit and structured way, which makes it an interesting and useful window into human communication in general. [All Africa.com music]
