Chorus:
Jua kwamba wewe ndio wangu
Baridi ya roho 'seisha na hamu
Sura yako dawa kwangu
Raha za pungu' kando zangu [Not really sure what this means]
Mahaba yako ndio tiba yangu
Nyota yako yang'ara yangu

Hebu tathmini kisha nipe jibu
'vi kwanini hutaki kunijibu
Mitihani yote nimeshinda
Nadhani ni wakati
Penzi letu sisi liwe wazi
Roho yangu inauma (a lady helps co-sing this line)
Maumivu sasa basi
Sasa basiiiii

Ni kwa thabiti nielewe
Pesa sio mapenzi...
Pesa sio mapenzi...
Kwa utenzi huu
Nielewe baby
Nakuhitaji mpenzi
Wewe nd'o faraja yangu
Wewe nd'o faraja yangu

Sampling African music - Soul Makossa

Soul Makossa Cameroun Manu DibangoThere have been many instances where African musicians have sampled popular American songs. The sampling gets done so blatantly that you could call some songs 'Thriller in Swahili', 'Amazing Grace in Zulu' and 'Unleash the dragon in Twi'. One popular remix or sampling is that of Banky W's Ebute metta which was also first known as the Nigerian remix of Rihanna's Umbrella. People may complain about the lack of originality of these African musicians but maybe they will care to know that Manu Dibango's Soul Makossa is part of the backbone for Rihanna's worldwide hit - Please don't stop the music. "Mama-se, mama-sa, mama-ma-ko-ssa" is that line that has kept dance floors going since 1972.

Okyeame Kwame's second album: M'awensem

One of my favorite rappers in Ghana is Okyeame Kwame aka the Rap Doctor. After the interview I had with him, I may be tempted to say he is pushing for the title of ‘favorite’ period. He is already known as one of the best lyricists in Ghana and is one of the most featured rappers in the country. He has the honour of being the rapper featured on Daddy Lumba’s remix, Obi ate me so bo. Apart from Lumba’s songs with Mr. Borax, he had never featured a rapper. Such is the pedigree of the old KASS boy who is one-half of famed rap duo, Akyeame.

Okyeame Kwame’s latest album is called M’anwensem. It is the Twi translation of ‘my poetry’. Not many people liken poetry to music. I am a pretty good poet but have not been able to write any good music. Okyeame Kwame can do both and is even merging them. He calls the album his poetry and it conveys his thoughts. Even the songs are written in stanzas and not choruses, hooks and verses like most songs are written. Quame Nsiah Appau is bringing something new and I believe he will leave a legacy with this effort. His Bohyeba album announced his arrival with hit songs like Mate ahwe ne do mu (I have fallen into her love), Hello Maame, Te m’ase (understand me) and Ghana Mmaa (Ghanaian women), while his critically acclaimed single on Obrafour’s Execution Diary called Opabeni enjoyed massive airplay.

    Jeremiah Gyang

Jeremiah Gyang was born in Jos, Plateau State in Nigeria to a musically inclined family. He wrote his first song at the age of 7. By observing his father who was an accomplished vocalist as well as an instrumentalist, he learned how to play both the guitar and keyboard proficiently by the age of eleven.

Jeremiah worked in the Sheraton Hotels and Towers in Abuja for 3 years as a keyboardist, percussionist and vocalist. He left thereafter to join Quest Media Studios in 2002, where he worked for two years as a songwriter and producer.

Nhlanhla brands herself, is Mafikizolo no more?

Nhlanhla Sibongile Mafu Nciza MafikizoloMafikizolo and African music fans have to be wondering - has Nhlanhla Sibongile Mafu Nciza of Mafikizolo fame gone solo? She launched her first solo album last year and is now the face of Sunsilk as she seeks to shed her Mafikizolo image and push her name more into the limelight.

She has even launched a fashion line called NN Vibes or NN Vintage (NN are her initials). She owns it with her husband, music mogul and co-owner of TS Records, Thembinkosi “TK” Nciza. Thembinkosi owns TS Records with popular radio and TV personality, DJ Sbu Leope.

Nhlanhla released her debut solo album titled Inguquko (Change) through TS Records. This was after Mafikizolo abandoned plans for a new album and Nhlanhla quit Kalawa Jazmee to join TS Records. Kalawa believes we'll see more Mafikizolo music in the future as she still remains a member of the Mafikizolo duo but for now Nhlanhla is enjoying a successful solo career.
